FEP, poly(hexafluoropropylene-tetrafluoroethylene)
Copolymerisation of tetrafluoroethylene with hexafluoropropylene (typically 25%) lowers the crystallinity (density ca 2,15 g/cm3) and renders a material with melting point at 260-290 C which can be conventionally melt processed. FEP can be used continuously at 200 C. The premeability for gases (e.g. nitrogen and oxygen) is high, and resistance to UV and ozone excellent. FEP has high transparency for visible and UV light and very low refractive index.
