COC, cycloolefin copolymer
Copolymers of linear and cyclic olefins are amorphous and transparent. They have low density, are stiff and strong, with heat distortion temperatures variable between 80 and 180 C. They have good resistance tohydrolysis, acids and bases and polar solvents. They are attacked by non-polar solvents. COCs are hydrophobic, absorb little water and have low vapour permeability. The electrical properties are good, with low temperature dependency, high isolation and low loss factor. They have interesting optical properties, with high transparency in visual and near-UV spectra, auspicious refractive index and low birefringence.
